Hey folks,
Strongly considering leasing a new Scion xb. They are giving killer deals, 215/mo with zero down. Include tax and license. 36k miles. Question, I have two kids (6&3) both in pretty large car seats (Britax) will they have enough legroom? How is cargo space with seats up in place? Is it suitable for my suburban lifestyle? Trips to Home Depot, Costco and grocery store all in one day? I know with seats folded it's comparable to a crv. Would get snow tires for Minnesota. I have had many Toyota's, no Scion. I really like Toyota reliability. Never let's you down.

Did you say "suburban lifestyle"? Because pretty sure its not for you then, the XB is made for the urban crowd bro.

I can tell you the FR-S is a great car.

There are anchors in the back for the car seats, but they probably won't fit.

Kinja'd!!!

It has a trunk and the seats fold flat. You can get a bike in it.

I got snow tires for mine.

Kinja'd!!!

and it tackles snowy roundabouts with style

Pretty much just like the xB, only you'll have to make more trips. Win, win.

Love the pic with the milk in back seat. Maybe in another life that car would be possible and or fun. I really like the versatility of the xb. I also like that not everyone has one. Rarely see them.

Isn't that really small In back? Backseat is also tiny tiny. I wish they offered a wagon focus.

While it is a good car I'd recommend a Honda Fit Sport. There is tons of room and has a very fun little suspension. My dad got one in 08

Honestly if you're looking for a boxy kid hauler get a Honda Element. They hold their value really well and have a crapton of space inside. Seriously you won't believe how big they are on the inside until you sit in one.

Old body style looks better.

Your money. Could do better. Certainly could do worse.

Anyone have dimensions of the focus hatchback? Am I wrong about the interior space? Isn't it really small in backseat?

Avoid the DCT and you'll be fine.

What is dct? It says it's only 33 inches in backseat legroom. That's pretty small. Smaller than scion xb, vw golf.

I have an 1st gen xB, and I love it. It's reliable, has a tons of legroom in the back, and gets amazing gas mileage. The back seats fold down and can carry, literally, and entire computer lab. I know this from first hand experience. Yes, that is insane.

The only downside, at least on the 1gens, is that they don't have a ton of oomph at times. If it's just me, and I've emptied all the kid stuff out of the car, and I'm on flat land in the snow, the thing is a rally car. It starts to show a lack of power sometimes though.

Dual Clutch Transmission.

I'm 5'10 and I can fit in the back of my brother's sedan. Plus, the Focus is really great to drive. The Scion is a Camry.

Best comparo I can make is a first gen Honda Fit I had. I am 6' and fit comfortably in the back seat. The Xb looks bigger to my eyes when I look.

Kids seats - Front facing in the fit was zero problemo. Rear facing car seats, no way in hell I could sit in the car with two of those in the back.

This. I love my first gen. It can carry tons of stuff with the seats down.

As much as I love the Focus...

I'd have to disagree. If he's just looking for an everyday vehicle, an xB can be fun, too.

Agreed between an Xb and a Fit the Fit takes it.

I owned a 2005 xB, but I've test driven the second gen (actually test rode, I was with someone in the market....they ended up with a Nissan Cube). The Scion xB has a huge backseat with massive legroom, especially considering it's length. I only have one child who was in a carseat when I owned the xB, but three (3!) kids in bulky infant/toddler seats could fit back there easy. Passengers in excess of 6 feet tall will comment on how much room they have. The Scion was also exceptionally reliable and decent on gas considering the xB's shape (high 20s usually). Of course the current xB has a bigger and more powerful engine than mine did, and the gas mileage probably suffers a bit. I would highly recommend test driving one with the whole family. You'll see just how much space is back there. Conventionally shaped hatches like the Mazda3 or VW Golf are not only more expensive but will not even compare in terms of backseat. The other thing that is useful for installing/removing car seats and the kids that go with them is that it has ridiculously easy access. You don't need to bend over awkwardly each time unlatching or latching a kid (or digging in between the seats for those LATCH connectors) into their seat, and they ride up high so they can see well out the rear windows. As for cargo space with the seats up, it's not much admittedly. For that you might actually want to check out the Cube which has more space and an extra storage bin available that fits where the spare would go. But with the seats down it's plenty. It's probably pretty obvious, but I highly recommend it!

I went to the auto show with the express purpose of seeing if my six year old son could fit in the backseat of the FR-S. Sadly, no way. There are seats in back, but pretty much nowhere for even the smallest of legs to go. Depressing, because the
FR-S has been at the top of my list.
